Famous Publishing pioneered the free glossy magazine publishing game in South Africa with the publication of The Ridge magazine in Umhlanga eight years ago. But that was just the start of the journey, as Famous Publishing soon moved into Hillcrest, also in KZN, before branching out into other upmarket communities around the country.
The Ridge is now part of a growing stable of titles, which include magazines in Hillcrest, the Natal Midlands, Pretoria and Johannesburg. The Crest in Hillcrest, Maritzburg Life in the KZN Midlands, Center’d in Centurion, Business in Durban, Due East in Pretoria East and The Parks in the leafy suburbs of Johannesburg are now established, with plenty more to come, including in Gauteng.
Famous Publishing recently became a Media24 company. Included in plans for this division are a national presence in South Africa’s most desirable communities and the launch of community websites, along with digital and mobile applications around South Africa. The first such site, The Ridge Online, is already touching 20 000 unique users a month after a year’s operation, while The Crest Online was launched four months ago and is gaining new followers by the day.
